The Villa Madonna Academy Awards WordPlay Cincy $1,065 Through Magnified Giving

April 15, 2017

The Villa Madonna Academy recently granted WordPlay Cincy $1,065 from Magnified Giving in support of WordPlay's programs. This local grant provides opportunity for expansion on and beginning new programs for students in and around the Cincinnati community. This grant will support our efforts in maximizing children and teens' education through reading, writing, and storytelling.

WordPlay is honored to receive this 1 out of just 2 grants given by the Academy through the Magnified Giving program in support of our efforts at growing our organization according to the 5 elements of our holistic approach to working with youth: Personal Development, Innovative Approaches to Learning, Community Building, Creative Expression, and Future Orientation. Together, with this gift from the Villa Madonna Academy, we are able to extend the opportunities for empowerment through education that can be transformative.

The programs we offer are designed to serve students finishing kindergarten, up through high school, including combating the summer learning slide that is accountable for more than 50% of the academic gap between students in upper- and lower-income households. There are a multitude of school year and summer time programs offered for students of all school ages, including learning academies, creative workshops, and creative writing and performance opportunities.

Magnified Giving's mission is to educate, inspire and engage students in philanthropy. Reaching the hearts and minds of teens, lightening the concerns of others, and magnifying the impact of philanthropy. Partnering with high schools and middle schools, we give groups of students $1000 to invest in the local non-profit community. The students research social causes interesting to them, and explore the non-profits serving those needs, then decide which non-profit organization is most deserving- we even match up to $250 of student-generated funds. In the 2015-16 school year, over 3,000 students from 61 schools and community programs granted $103,358 to local non-profit organizations!  http://www.magnifiedgiving.org/
