Creativity and Summer Learning

For many students, teachers and families, emerging from the past year of remote learning has been a highly anticipated transition. Cincinnati Public Schools has reimagined summer learning in light of students’ evolving needs, designing its month-long Summer Scholars program to balance academics with an emphasis on enrichment experiences spanning arts and culture, social-emotional learning, movement and outdoor activities among other opportunities usually relegated to out-of-school time.

WordPlay Cincy is proud to support this initiative. Throughout the month of June, our Teaching Artist team will provide in-person WordPlay enrichment programming across the district at 9 different schools. Reaching more than 250 students in grades 1-12, we'll provide over 180 hours of creative arts programming from storytelling to playwriting to visual arts. Students will have the opportunity to explore themes that connect personal narrative to art for social change and civic engagement, experiencing the power of creative expression for building empathy, social connection and personal accomplishment.

Our 2021 Summer Scholars schools are:

  • Aiken High School

  • Chase Elementary School

  • College Hill Fundamental Academy
