WordPlay is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Williams and Steve Yandell to its Board of Trustees. Both Williams and Yandell join the organization at a critical time as WordPlay works to expand creative program offerings to a greater number of Cincinnati children.
Williams brings a strong background in the nonprofit sector to her board trustee position. She has directed development departments with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati as well as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Cincinnati, and she currently works as the Vice President of Donor Relations at the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty.
“Karen brings with her a keen sense of the systems and leadership that it takes to balance growth and resources for a successful nonprofit like WordPlay. This really has been an ideal time for her to join the board, as our organization’s offerings are so swiftly expanding to meet demand,” Development and Communications Director Reba Hennessey said. Yandell has been an Associate Professor of English at Xavier University since 2003. In addition to his background in academia, Yandell brings a deep knowledge of the community to his position, an invaluable asset as the organization continues to grow.
“We are very fortunate to have Steve join our Board. Along with his professional qualifications of scholarly expertise, research and teaching excellence, Steve is a long-time Northside resident and is very earnest in his desire to help WordPlay grow both as a community resource to his neighbors, and expand to reach new students across the city, ” Executive Director and Co-Founder Libby Hunter stated. WordPlay Cincy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Cincinnati's young people fulfill their potential by making connections through reading, writing and storytelling. Their creative literacy programs are made free for young participants thanks to the generosity of supporters like you.
