WordPlay’s newest Trustee, Candace N. Ellis, brings a depth of wisdom and insight to the fast growing organization as it makes strategic decisions regarding its programmatic offerings of reading, writing and storytelling programs to help Cincinnati’s young people make connections and fulfill their potential.
Executive Director Libby Hunter enthused, “Candace embodies the spirit of personal empowerment and community dedication that is such a central tenant of WordPlay Cincy. It’s not only an honor, but an absolutely necessary step in our growth to have her join the leadership of our organization.”
As Northside neighbor, parent and volunteer member of WordPlay since its founding in 2012, Ellis bring excellent insights to the organization’s plans for capacity building; as well as practical approaches to planning communications with the whole WordPlay community.
“I am privileged to be more involved with and connected to my community as a Trustee for WordPlay. I have seen firsthand the impact that participation in WordPlay’s programs can have on children’s achievement and I wish there had been a WordPlay when I was young. My goal as a Trustee is to help grow the organization so that one day all of Cincinnati’s young people will have the same opportunities as my own two girls,” said Candace.
In addition to her volunteering and membership with WordPlay, Candace works as an Administrative Support Professional in radiology with The Christ Hospital Network. Her daughters are WordPlay Scholars and proud attendees of Cincinnati Public Schools who you may have seen featured on recent WordPlay annual reports and CPS posters.
WordPlay Cincy is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Cincinnati's young people fulfill their potential by making connections through reading, writing and storytelling.
