Yelp Foundation Awards $5,000 to WordPlay CincyYelp Foundation Gives Local recently granted WordPlay Cincy $5,000 in support of WordPlay's programs. This local grant provides opportunity for expansion on and beginning new programs for students in and around the Cincinnati community. This grant will support our efforts in maximizing the kids' education through reading, writing, and storytelling.
WordPlay is honored to receive this grant from Yelp in support of our efforts at growing our organization according to the 5 elements of our holistic approach to working with youth: Personal Development, Innovative Approaches to Learning, Community Building, Creative Expression, and Future Orientation. Together, with Yelp, we are able to extend the opportunities for empowerment through education that can be transformative.
The programs we offer are designed to serve students finishing kindergarten, up through high school, including combating the summer learning slide that is accountable for more than 50% of the academic gap between students in upper- and lower-income households. There are a multitude of school year and summer time programs offered for students of all school ages, including learning academies, creative workshops, and creative writing and performance opportunities.
In 2011 Yelp Inc. established the Yelp Foundation to support charitable organizations that actively address the needs of local communities, focus on education, and support freedom of expression, as well to promote a culture of philanthropy among employees of Yelp Inc. The Foundation gives grants to deserving nonprofits throughout the U.S. and even match donations made to charities by Yelp employees up to $1,000 per person per year. The Foundation has given more than $3 million to charity since it was founded in 2011. The Foundation now has millions of dollars in assets, which allows it to make substantial grants each year that create significant impacts on local issues. http://www.yfgiveslocal.org/
