About WordPlay

Wordplay is a creative, inclusive, storytelling-based non-profit in Cincinnati.

WordPlay sparks storytelling through writing, performance, and visual arts in collaboration with Cincinnati’s young people by celebrating their strengths, cultivating belonging, and fueling social impact.

We offer public programs for youth and young adults across the full spectrum of literary arts.

We work closely with local schools, including Cincinnati Public Schools, to connect Teaching Artists to classroom teachers and students.  Our school efforts include our permanent Writer’s Room at Aiken High School.

We serve approximately 2500 students in 600+ workshops per year.

Our amazing team includes staff, Teaching Artists, and volunteers who believe:

  • That young people are the future of our community and the drivers of social change.

  • Storytelling through the arts nurtures voices and supports self-determination and the freedom of expression.

  • WordPlay is a conduit between young people and meaningful opportunities for growth in our communities.

In the Spring of 2022, we opened our new building in Northside, and hope that WordPlay’s new home will be both a statement of purpose as well as an inspiration, becoming a community safe place for writing, poetry, art, gathering, and the telling of one’s own story.
